(Cincinnati, OH) Jani-King of Cincinnati is a finalist for the coveted 2012 Green Business Award. The annual award is presented by the Cincinnati Business Journal and the U.S. Green Building Council. Jani-King of Cincinnati’s nomination stems from its implementation of the Jani-King GREEN 2011 Cleaning Schedule.

Jani-King of Cincinnati’s GREEN 2011 Cleaning Schedule is based on the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system that was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The GREEN 2011 Cleaning Schedule is one of the most comprehensive solutions on the market that allows businesses to selectively choose from a menu of Green Clean offerings to meet their specific goals. In the past, a one-size-fits-all has deterred many smaller businesses due to cost and concern. “Going green is easy if you’re a Fortune 500 company because you have the resources and money ….for small and medium sized businesses, it is hard to go green because they lack those resources,” said Jani-King of Cincinnati owner Blake Seylhouwer. “We wanted to put together a green cleaning schedule for small and medium size business to follow so they can become green as well. The customized green cleaning schedule makes financial sense and takes out the fear of the “expensive green transition.”

Seylhouwer added that many big businesses and other institutions that can afford to pay the extra costs associated with Green Cleaning have already made the transition. Jani-King of Cincinnati’s strategy uses the GREEN 2011 Cleaning Schedule which provides small to mid-sized companies a Green Cleaning service to fit their budget while complying with LEED certification standards.

“We want to become the company that people think about when they want to go green,” said Blake Seylhouwer. “We want to serve that market that we feel is underserved.”

With the development of this complete schedule that is customizable, cost-effective, and educational, Jani-King of Cincinnati is blazing a trail for the commercial cleaning industry by giving small to mid-sized businesses a worthwhile option for Green Cleaning. Jani-King hopes to create a significant growing demand among small and mid-sized businesses in Cincinnati for “Green” janitorial services while converting 100% of current customers to a customized Green Cleaning schedule by the end of 2012.

In summary, Blake Seylhouwer states that, “The Green Cleaning Schedule details how to adopt certain aspects of green cleaning without having to become LEED certified. This gives small and medium sized businesses the opportunity to become eco friendly without such a financial impact; there is not anything like this out there right now.” A fundamental change in the standard model of commercial cleaning is the only way that a shift to Green Cleaning will occur among janitorial companies.
