According to James Sublett, MD, a board-certified asthma and allergy specialist in Louisville, Kentucky, Allergies are the number two reason that people miss work. The average worker with allergies misses approximately one hour per work week over the course of the year.

Summer allergy symptoms include:

Runny nose, Watery eyes, Sneezing, Coughing, Itchy eyes and nose, Dark circles under the eyes.

However many times these hours are concentrated on peak allergy periods. Help your customesr stay on top of their allergies and their work by taking the appropriate steps in office cleaning to drastically cut down on the presence of allergens.

  • Clean out air ducts every month. To make sure that the air conditioner is circulating clean air you want to clean the filter to prevent the spread of airborne allergens and germs.
  • Use high efficiency particulate air, or HEPA, vacuums to clean the carpets. The high quality filter in these vacuums will greatly reduce the amount of allergens in the carpet
  • Dusting is extremely important. The accumulation of dust is a huge contributor to the amount of allergens circulating throughout office. Microfiber cloths are the best type of duster to use because they remove dust without letting it stir, they hold an incredibly large amount of dust, microfiber cloths won’t scratch any surfaces and you can wash and reuse them.

A few additional office cleaning tips that you could leave on small business cards at desks will also help to reduce the amount of allergy causing agents in the office.

  • Pillows that you may use to sit on should be washed regularly.
  • Blankets or stuffed animals at desks should try to be removed as allergens can collect on these plush surfaces.
  • Keep a canister of compressed air at your desk to clean the dust out from your keyboard and the hard to reach areas of your desk.

Office cleaning done correctly can help to alleviate the allergy woes of the workplace. If you need help clearing your office of allergens, contact the professionals at Jani-King.
