Waste Management Phoenix Open

As the 2015 Waste Management Phoenix Open is set to tee off this
week, we reflect on the long standing partnership Jani-King has
held with the tournament including providing cleaning services to
many of the venues busiest areas. The following story is from
last year’s event, but make no mistake about it,
Jani-King of Phoenix

franchisees are on-site again this year ready to turn in another
winning performance!

An account that started off as an investment in building B2B
relationships has grown to become a great source of revenue,
opportunity and pride for the Phoenix regional office. Seven
years ago, Jani-King of Phoenix invested in a skybox at the Waste
Management Phoenix Open, one of the largest tournaments on the
PGA Tour schedule. Initially, it took a couple of years to build
the right relationships with the tournament organizers before
finally earning a chance to clean the tournament offices. But
once Julie Robinson, MasterFranchise Owner, Jani-King Southwest,
and her team proved their capabilities, the Thunderbirds
(management group for the tournament), began to turn over more
and more of the tournament cleaning needs.

“Jani-King’s role in the event now is for our franchisees to
clean the most high-profile areas,” said Robinson. “We are
responsible for the Corporate Village tents used by large
sponsors. There are eight tents this year and each host up to 300
people a day. Our franchisees also clean all of the skyboxes and
seats on the famous stadium hole, No. 16, as well as skyboxes on
holes 17 and 18. There are a total of 210 skyboxes which hold a
minimum of 35 guests, with some of those skyboxes large enough to
accommodate up to 150 spectators. We also clean the trailers for
PGA Tour players and their families, and the trailers for the
Thunderbirds. Lastly we provide year-round service at the Grille
at TPC, in the clubhouse itself, thanks to franchisee Rob Genet.”

The Waste Management Phoenix Open crew consists of franchisee
Norma Flores and her hand-picked team, supported by operations
manager Lisa Christensen. According to Robinson, they’ve
encountered some interesting obstacles servicing this outdoor
event throughout the years. “Unusually high winds scattered white
flower arrangements all over the fancy black carpet inside a huge
corporate tent one year and several mornings they had to chip
away ice from the tops of all the tables and chairs in the
skyboxes,” said Robinson. “They also had to figure out how to
prevent the glass cleaner from freezing as they were cleaning
before sunrise because it does get that cold in the desert
overnight in January.”

Over 525,000 people attended the event last year and Jani-King of
Phoenix is proud to report zero complaints were logged. This
outstanding accomplishment is especially important in building
additional business with partners introduced through connections
with the Thunderbirds. “The Thunderbirds are a local charity
group of the executive men in our business community who run all
parts of the event. They are well-connected within the Phoenix
community,” said Robinson.

“Cleaning these high-profile areas, which are utilized by the
Phoenix business community to entertain during the week, gives us
great exposure, as well as further establishes a continuing
relationship with the Thunderbirds. If you do business in Phoenix
the last week of January, you do it out at the Open.”

Coming off the heels of another successful tournament week,
Jani-King of Phoenix franchisees

also began providing service at the brand new, state-of-the-art
Chicago Cubs spring training complex in Mesa, AZ. “We started by
preparing the new facilities for media day and also for visits
from City of Mesa officials and taxpayers that will be checking
out the new park and facilities,” said Robinson.

Congratulations to Jani-King of Phoenix and its franchisees for
continuing to build relationships and grow Jani-King’s market
share while gaining valuable exposure through these high-profile
accounts.
