Jani-King of Toronto, a Master Franchise region within Jani-King International, the world’s largest commercial cleaning franchise, is in the driver’s seat of a unique cleaning account.
With thousands of buses moving around Toronto each day, Cathy Gregory, Regional Director for Jani-King of Toronto, saw a unique opportunity for Jani-King to expand its services in the region. ‘This is a flagship region for public transportation,’ said Gregory, who signed the account last month. ‘There is public transportation involving bus contracts in virtually every region of Toronto, so this is hopefully just the beginning for us.’
According to Gregory, one factor that contributed to the smooth start-up was her prior experience in starting two hotel accounts. ‘The buses have to be cleaned in a similar timeframe to a hotel room. Each day, the buses are ‘turned’ in only a matter of minutes and each person has a precise amount of time to finish their duties depending on the size of the bus.’
In addition to cleaning the inside of the bus, Jani-King of Toronto has also hired certified bus drivers to fuel the buses and drive them through the exterior wash bays. Once they are through the wash bays, Jani-King crews step onboard and clean in sections. One person cleans the driver’s area including wiping down and disinfecting all touch points, another person scrubs the floor with a deck brush before dry mopping, and the third person is in charge of cleaning the windows and other contact points on the bus.
‘We clean the buses seven days a week from 7p.m. to 4a.m.,’ said Gregory. ‘Then once per month, we are scheduled for a ‘special clean’ to remove scuff marks, gum, and other items as well as clean the corners and edges.’
